Why processed sugar in drinks are bad while sugar cane juice isn't

Sugarcane juice has recently been gaining popularity in the health food market. It is a healthier alternative to soda and other fruit juices that are sweetened by processed sugar. Sugarcane juice, especially when it is cold pressed, is rich in minerals and an alkaline. A glass full of it can replenish the body, not just of carbohydrates from the sucrose, but also of minerals such as calcium, potassium, manganese, magnesium and iron. It is the ideal drink to replenish the liquid in our body as well as inject our thirsty organs with much needed minerals. It is the perfect drink after a busy day at the office or after a good sweaty workout that depletes the body of manganese, magnesium and potassium.

In ancient Ayurvedic medicine, sugarcane is prescribed to promote better digestion. Here are other benefits of drinking sugarcane juice that you won’t find from drinking other processed sugar-filled drinks such as sodas and energy drinks:

  • Sugarcane juice that has been cold-pressed and preserved naturally through high pressure processingcontains the original vitamins, enzymes, trace minerals, antioxidants and proteins. It has a low glycemic index because of the raw sugar that keeps the body’s metabolism at a healthier level and does not turn into fat.

  • The enzymes, antioxidants and trace minerals in the sugarcane juice prevent bacterial growth and cancer. It is known to keep the kidneys healthy and prevent Urinary Tract Infection (UTI) and kidney stones. Enzymes and antioxidants in the juice prevent the growth and spread of cancer cells. Enzymes and antioxidants are alkaline substances that balance the pH level in our body and prevent cancer growth.

  • Sugarcane juice also strengthens the liver and is a known cure for jaundice. Jaundice is a liver disorder with symptoms of elevated levels of bilirubin in the blood that results in an unhealthy liver. The juice replenishes the lost minerals, proteins and other nutrients needed to keep the liver healthy.

  • Sugarcane juice has also been known to cure acne and keep your skin healthy and youthful from the inside out. It is rich in AHA or Alpha-hydroxy Acids naturally. This helps in curing acne and reducing spots and wrinkles.

Natural juices from plants and fruits are nutritious and revitalizing. Sugarcane juice is a popular refreshing drink in South America and Southeast Asia. It is often found hawked by street vendors and selected juice bars. A glass or two a day will keep you healthy and full of energy.
